Doh! How did i fall for that?!
I got suckered into buying a customised gold hammer. I reported the matter to nc soft and they said they will look into it, however, they also said that they do not "uncustomise" items, which means that I now have a sweeeet hammer that I cant use. Does this kind of thing happen often?

Dunno. Most people will look carefully before buying an item and won't be suckered into "WTS (item) FAST - ONLY (low price)!!". But then again, most people have experience with trading. One might say they don't have a high opinion of their fellow players, so they check and double-check. I know I do. There's a lot of scammers out there, so please don't let this bad trade experience turn you into one of them. Don't scam someone just because you got scammed yourself.

Due to the recent updates, it clearly says with a big bright Sign: "Warning - You are about to buy a costumized item" or something like that.
You really can't expect Anet to do something about it as it was your own fault. |

Well, you do need to customize a weapon though...
There's nothing Anet can do about it, you bought it and you should have paid more attention... there's even a warning now about that... What can they do more than that? Just keep it as a reminder; it'll help you in the future trades |

explainations r in order
Okay lemme explain... The guy said that due to a new "tweak" in the current build, the game now allows one to "recustomise" items. The only reason I even fell for that was bcoz i saw seen a notice saying "a new version of guild wars is available, please quit and restart the game" (or words to that effect) at the bottom of my screen (which is why i ignored the warning too). Had i not been in such a bleedin hurry, the whole thing wouldnt have happened. The gold was a paltry sum, im only concerned about the fact that there are maggots like this that just taint the whole in game experience. As for it being my fault... well DUH!!

You can't name names here on GWG forums, the Mods will make you remove that.
Caveat Emptor - Buyer Beware. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. A fool and his money are soon parted... etc. so-on. As long as you learn from your mistakes then you are a better person. I hope that is the case. =) |

Scammers will say anything to get you going. If anything fishy happens during a trade, I just cancel it and walk away.
It's not worth it. (BTW, I got scammed out of 4 black dye once. The classic "quick switch from Plat to Gold." I, too, was in a hurry. Lesson one learned: Carefully check trade before agreeing. Lesson two, never trade in a hurry.) Just remember why it happened, and move on. It's nothing that will permanently effect your character. |

I'm sorry to say this but I don't see how it's possible to feel for you, you only have yourself to blame for falling for that.
I mean you get a freaking warning about you can't use it, if you could recustomize it why would that warning be there? |

Wow, i sure didnt expect a bunch of replies so soon. Apparently Im not the only one who reads stuff in a hurry. Ive already explained why I ignored the warning so Im not getting into that again. Why people get this idea that I expect "sympathy" is frankly beyond me. And neither do I expect nc soft/ a net to do anything to "reimburse" me in any way, if anything, I was very happy with the way they promptly responded to my report. The whole point of me starting this thread was to get a feel of how often this sort of thing happens (well, that and the fact that I was pissed off at the scammer). In a way Im questioning the point of it now coz it seems the whole idea behind it is lost. In any event, I do thank the people who had something positive to say. Anyway, the issue as I now see it, is effectively dead.
And oh, apologies for posting the name, seems my anger got the better of me there. Last edited by dreadlord_morpheus; Sep 12, 2006 at 05:10 PM // 17:10.. |

If you buy a customized weapon, does it still say, "customized by scammer's name?" I think I'd keep it in my storage in the first slot as a reminder so I'd never forget that scumbag.
If this had happened to me, and the scammer refused to give my money back, he'd stay on my friends list forever. I'd give his name to my guildies and other friends and he'd rue the day he scammed me. He can't stay "offline" or on "do not disturb" forever. Eventually he'd give in and pay you back. Unless he changed accounts. Luckily I read the "scams" area of the forum and on guildwiki. So I don't think this will ever happen to me. |

I know exactly what u mean. Yes, the name stays on the weapon but trying to pester him wont help. The scammer will just "ignore" you. I have spread his name around my guildies and friends, Im hoping it takes off from there. To be honest though, hes probably changed accounts by now. |
